MEGA DAYS 2019 - It's Almost Time!

It's not long until MEGA DAYS arrives.  We hope you're as excited as we are.  We have 21 outstanding high school students who will be counselors and DA's, (director's assistant) and they are so excited about camp.  We also have 14 adults who will be a going to camp to help take care of all of the activities, crafts, meals, lessons, and all of the other things it takes to make camp happen.  Each of our staff members are critical to the success of Mega Days, and we are thankful to them for volunteering to be a part of such an awesome week.  Our staff can't wait for camp to start and to see each of the students who have signed up to be part of Mega Days.  It's going to be a great week!

This page will tell you everything you need to know about MEGA DAYS 2019.  Please read it carefully.

Departure Info:  First of all, we are meeting on Monday, June 3, at 9:00am at A&M Church of Christ.  When you arrive, all luggage should go on the sidewalk under the covered drop off area.  Our staff will load the trailer sometime after all students are checked in.  If students want to carry pillows on the bus instead of having them in the luggage trailer, they should carry their pillows in the building with them when they check-in.  (The buses will not be open until we leave for camp.)  Once you have your luggage on the sidewalk, parents and students should come inside and check in.

Check In: Check-in will take place in the Parlor at the A&M Church of Christ building.  The doors to the Parlor will open at 9:00am.  When you get to the camper check-in table, you will be given a card with your name on it.  This card will lead you through the steps to check-in.

Instruction Form for Over-the-Counter and Prescription Medication: We need to know about any prescription medication you child needs during camp...and any over-the-counter medication they can take.  (No  medication, including over-the-counter medication is not allowed in cabins by law.)

****We have created an online form to allow you to share this information.  We need this form completed by every family with a child at Mega Days.  Please complete it by Sunday, June 2.  Here is a link to the form:

If your son/daughter has any prescription medication they need to take during Mega Days, please have it ready to give to the nurse at check in.

Waters Edge Encampment Liability Release: We will need a liability release for every camper at Mega Days.  You can fill out the form and bring it with you (or email it to us) or you can fill it out on Monday morning during check-in.

After Check-In: After check-in, students will go into the gym to be with their counselors.  Parents are welcome to leave after their son/daughter is with their counselor, however, we invite parents to stay until our prayer around 9:20am if your schedule allows.

Special Note:  Even though we will be beginning camp at 9:20, we will not actually leave the building until later in the morning.  We will have our first activities, craft time, and lesson time at the church building, and then we will head to camp.  This allows us to finish up all paperwork while we are at the building and it allows us some extra time to deal with any issues that come up.

Return Info: On Friday, June 7, we will arrive back to the church building around 12:00, noon.  We will be sending updates via twitter if you want to keep up with when we arrive to camp or depart to come back home.  You can follow @amyouthministry or you can see the updates at the top of our webpage, amyouth.net.

Upon our return, all students will go into the gym and you can pick-up your son/daughter there. We will not be releasing students into the parking lot without parents...you (or whoever is picking up your son/daughter) will need to come in to the gym to pick up your camper.

Here is a list of things to bring:
- Bible
- Pen
-
Clothing for Monday through Friday.  (Shorts should be at least fingertip length.  All shirts should have sleeves.)
- Swimsuit (Girls should have one piece swimsuits or a tank top/t-shirt to wear while swimming.)
- Toiletries
- Towel and washcloth (we suggest bringing two towels - one for after shower and one for after swimming)
- Bedding for a twin bed and pillow. (You can bring sheets or a sleeping bag for bedding.)
- Tennis shoes for games/activities which require running
- A fun (or goofy) shirt or hat or socks (or all three) for Wacky Wednesday
- Flashlight
- Bug spray
- Sunscreen
- Camera (optional)
- Snacks (optional)
- Games for bus and cabin (optional)
For students going into 7th grade next year: please bring water shoes or tennis shoes that can go in water or sandals with straps on front and back (if you do not have these, it's okay, but a pair of shoes that can get wet would be helpful.)
- Life-jacket (optional, but recommended)  Special Note: At Mega Days our swim time is in a spring fed lake on the camp property.  Because it is a lake, all students are required to wear life jackets.  The camp has a limited number of life jackets, but if you have a life jacket and would like to bring it, please feel free to do so.  It is helpful when students have their own life jacket.  Make sure your jacket is labeled with your name somewhere on the inside of the jacket.

A word about packing: Because we will have a large number of students staying in the same cabins, it would be very helpful if you could label your child's belongings.

Please Do Not Bring -

- Money
- Cell phones
- Fidget Spinners
- Slime
- MP3 players or music devices/headphones of any kind
- Personal video game players
- DVD players
- Anything intended to be used for playing a joke (water balloons, shaving cream, etc.)
- Anything that could potentially harm someone such as a pocket knife, etc.

Letters from Home -
It's always fun to get letters from home while at camp, however, it's difficult for parents to know just when to send a letter so that it arrives right on time.  Therefore, we will have a "letter box" available to all parents before camp.  The letter box will also be available at the visitor's desk at church on Sunday (6/2) and on the day we check in for Mega Days, Monday, June 3.

Please put your son/daughter's name on the outside of the envelope and which day you would like them to get the letter. (Tues, Wed, or Thurs...there will not be mail distributed on Monday or Friday)  We'll make sure they get it on that day.  You are welcome to put in a letter for each day if you'd like.  Please do not send candy/carepackages.

We really want to encourage you to send at least one letter for your son/daughter while they are at camp.  Most of our students receive letters from parents or family members, and this can be a very encouraging thing for your son/daughter to receive.  (If you need help coming up with ideas of what to write, you can go to letterstocamp.net and find many ideas.  It is a blog, so the most recent posts are at the top, but look on the right side for ideas by category.)

Information to be aware of:
Overnight - If your son/daughter could possibly have an accident during the night, please let Jenni or Monty or Heather or Dyan know by using the email addresses below or calling the church office.  We will help your son/daughter in any way they need, but it would be helpful to know of this need ahead of time.

Special needs - If your son/daughter has any special needs that we need to be aware of at Mega Days, please let us know about them by calling or emailing Monty, Jenni, or Dyan.  It is especially helpful to us to know about any food allergies (gluten free, etc.) your son/daughter might have as well as whether or not your son/daughter has any difficulty in a learning situation such as class or small groups.  (If you already filled out the food allergy information when you filled out the sign-up form, you do not have to let us know again.)

Final payments - If you have not made your final payment for Mega Days, please bring that payment when you check-in on June 3.  If you need extra time to make the final payment, please let us know.

Cell phones and Students - Students are not allowed to have cell phones at camp.  If your son/daughter owns a phone, they will need to leave it at home for camp.  Please note that "at home" does not mean in their bag or pocket. :)  This is the same policy for our middle school and high school students at camp. If you need to reach your student, use the phone numbers below to text us and we will get them in touch with you as soon as we can.

Head Lice - All students will be checked for lice on the first day of camp.  If students have lice, their parent will be asked to come and pick them up, and they will not be able to return to camp.  Please please please check your son/daughter for lice before camp starts so that they will not have to miss camp.  We do not want to have to send any campers home because of head lice.
