Uplift 2019 Travel Info and Packing List

Hey Everyone - We're so excited you'll be going to Uplift this summer.  It's going to be amazing.  On this page you'll find everything you need to know about Uplift.  Please make sure you read everything well.  We would also like to ask students to read this page in its entirety.  Parents, please let your son/daughter know about this.  Thanks!

Travel Info: We'll meet at church at 5:00am on Saturday, June 15.  That's right, 5:00am.  (sorry it's early.  We tried to get the town of Searcy to move closer to us, but they voted to not move the town closer to College Station yet.)  Set your alarm.  Maybe even two.  Find a friend who will text you to make sure you're up.

When you arrive to church, please pack your suitcase in the trailer.  After your luggage is loaded, come inside the building to check-in.  We'll make sure you are here, help you open your eyes if they are still closed from sleeping, collect any phones and pray together before we leave.

We're going to try to leave as close to 5:00 as possible.

Food while traveling: We'll make a breakfast stop about 2 hours after we leave church.   It will likely be a Walmart stop - so whatever kind of breakfast you want to grab from Walmart...or whatever breakfast you want to bring with you...is great.  You'll need money for that Walmart/breakfast stop and $3 for lunch.  We'll be stopping to pick-up Chick-fil-a or Subway box lunches and we'll provide everything you need for $3.  On the trip home you'll need money for lunch, and maybe two snack stops.  If you can eat snacks and not make a mess / pick up your trash / not throw food or wrappers at anyone else, you make bring snacks for the bus.

Games for the bus: If you would like to bring cards or any kind of game to play on the bus, you're welcome to do so. Actually, it would be a good idea.  Playing games is fun.  Fun people do fun things.  You should bring some games to play.

Our return:  We plan to return around 8:00pm on Thursday, June 20.  We'll keep parents updated via our website and twitter.   Some years we are home by 6:30 or 7:00pm.

Packing List
:  Bible, pen, bedding (sleeping bag or sheets for a twin bed), pillow, towel, toiletries, clothes,  sleeping clothes, tennis shoes.

Dress Code at Uplift
: Shorts must be past finger-tip.  Cheer/running shorts (Nike style shorts) will not be allowed at Uplift this year, so plan accordingly.  Also, no tank-tops or sleeveless shirts - even during afternoon recreation time.  Leggings or form fitting pants are not allowed.  Shirts which have the words "Taco Tuesday" are allowed.  Clothes with Christmas trees are not.  It's not even Christmastime.

Optional Things
: Camera (since you won't have phones much of the time), extra money for snacks/shirts/souvineers, watch or non-radio alarm clock with an alarm for each morning (since we won't have cell phones...if you don't have an alarm clock, it's okay, Erin or Tyler can wake you up...but if you bring an alarm clock...PLEASE, no alarms with radios), swimsuit. Oh, and in case you missed it, please do not bring a radio or clock/radio for your room.

Music for Bus
: If you keep reading this info about Uplift, which we hope you will, you'll notice below that this is a non-iPhone trip.  What about music in the buses, you ask?  Well, if you have any music on your phone (or if you want to bring a iPod/mp3 player and check it in when we leave just like you would a phone) we can possibly use those on the buses.  However, there is not to be one little bit of profanity or sexually explicit music coming from a bus speaker...and if your phone is the contributor of such, your phone will be banned from living in America and banned from camp. :)  We want all music to be "grandma-worthy" clean.

Cell Phones and Uplift
: The staff at Uplift asks that students not bring a phone, but because this is a hard request for some students and adults, they do not completely prohibit them from being at camp.  However, we want to be respectful of their request, (and we know how valuable it can be to disconnect from technology) so we are turning in phones as we leave.  We will pass them out a time or two during the week for you to call your parents or check text messages, but other than that, it will be a non-phone week.  As always, we ask for your honesty and good attitude about this.  Anytime your parents need to get in touch with you, they can call Monty or Heather's phone, or Uplift Central 501-279-4660. Likewise, if you need to talk to your parents, you can use our phones anytime.  Your phone will be kept in our group's "phone box" when you do not have it.

Things Not to Bring
:
Electronics of any kind - except cameras.
iPad/tablet/MP3/iPod devices
Anything with headphones/earbuds
Computers/laptops
Radios
Televisions
Video game devices
Stuffed animals that are over 50 years old
T-shirts that have been worn at least 5 times without being washed
Roasted (or non-roasted) ducks

We ask your cooperation in not bringing these things.  We do not want you to be in a situation where they are confiscated at camp.  Uplift also asks you to not bring water guns, water balloons, knives of any kind, tobacco, or anything illegal.  Practical jokes/pranks are not tolerated at Uplift.

When you Check In
: When you check in for camp, we'll ask you you whether or not you have any electronics or iPods, etc.  So if you're thinking about whether or not you should bring something even though Uplift asks us not to, please do not.

Summer T-shirts: If you have a summer shirt, bring it to Uplift and wear it if you want to.  If you do not have one yet, we probably can't get one here in time for you to have it before Uplift.  However, we might can get shirts delivered to Uplift.  If you want one and haven't ordered it yet, let Monty or Heather know.

How Parents can Keep Up With Our Trip and our Return
:  You can look at amyouth.net and get updates there.  Additionally, you follow @amyouthministry on twitter.  We will text/update 1-2 times on the day we return to let you know our planned arrival time to B/CS.

Last thing
: We want you to be ready for Uplift not only physically (having your stuff packed, being to camp on time, etc.) but we especially want you to be ready for camp spiritually.

So...here are some thoughts about being spiritually ready for Uplift:
 - Pray about your time at Uplift and ask God to work in your heart in whatever way He wants.
 - Be ready to put some of the distractions of life behind you for a few days while we're at camp.
 - Don't come to camp with the intention of finding a girlfriend or boyfriend.
 - Try to live out Colossians 3 when it says to "set your mind on things above, not on earthly things."
 - Open your eyes to see what God's desire is for your life.
 - Be ready to sing when it's time to sing, pray when it's time to pray, learn when it's time to learn, etc.  We're also great for you eating when it's time to eat, sleeping when it's time to sleep and playing when it's time to play...ha.  Oh, and it's also a good idea to shower when it's time to shower.  That would help all of us out.

We expect everyone from our group to be fully involved in camp activities, worship time, classes, etc.  If you're thinking about skipping or sleeping in worship/classes, etc., please change your plans or let us know so we can work out a solution.

Okay, that's it.  If you have other questions, please let us know.  Get excited!  See you Saturday, June 15, at 5:00am.
